Focus - Finding the Space for Success (Mindfulness)
This programme will help you with your calendar, meetings, to do lists, strategic planning and interpersonal challenges. We share with you the principles of mindfulness through specific exercises that address real world situations.
Course Overview
The 'busy-ness' of our interconnected world often distracts us from what's most important. It's easy to find yourself swept away by a tide of thoughts, worries and pressures. We live hurried lives and our minds are focusing on the next task before we have even left the meeting room. We are connected with each other 24 hours a day, seven days a week through smartphones, tablets, computers and social media, its easy to lose focus and direction as well as a sense of self!
Our minds are powerful computers that store vast quantities of information. Many of us go through the day opening one ‘file’ after another and never closing them down. If you do that to a computer, it slows down and eventually crashes. Replacing the hard drive could be costly. In people, overload leads to imbalance and anxiety. This programme will help you with your calendar, meetings, to do lists, strategic planning and interpersonal challenges. We share with you the principles of mindfulness through specific exercises that address real world situations. The results? The benefits of mindfulness are huge and have been widely researched and recorded.
Mindfulness helps us to:
- Make better decisions;
- Have a stronger sense of self;
- Build better relationships;
- Connect and empathise with other people;
- Handle multiple commitments without feeling under pressure; and
- Have clarity and focus.
We are more motivated, energised, positive, confident and resilient, choosing to respond to situations rather than simply react. We're in touch with the world around us and more able to lead a healthy life. With greater resilience we feel more in control, see challenges as opportunity and have greater commitment. All of this helps us feel more balanced, less stressed and able to achieve more – at work and in our personal lives.
The CMBD Focus programme is based on the world renowned Centre for Mindfulness, Bangor University, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme (MBSR). It consists of eight two hour sessions, once a week over an eight week period and regular practice between sessions. All participants will receive a workbook, meditation CDs and email support during the eight weeks of the course and for four weeks after it ends. The programmer is led by experienced mindfulness teachers with a maximum of 20 delegates per programme and is normally run on an in-house basis.
