What You Will Learn

Study is via the online learning platform on the CMI’s Management Direct resource. Here you will find structured learning journeys designed by the CMI that will take you through each module required for your qualification at your own pace. The online learning journeys are a mix of reading, video tutorials, interactive scenario exercises and questionnaires and at Level 5 take between 5 and 10 hours each to complete. The learning journeys are supported by your own reading and research and your CMBD personal tutor will guide you all the way. What you will specifically learn depends on your choice of Assignment units. The wide choice of topics means that you can tailor your learning to suit your personal development aims.

The combination of tutor support and self-development delivers a high quality, flexible and cost-effective way of achieving an Internationally recognised qualification. CMI qualifications at Level 5 are based on practical skills and competences that are rated in academic terms as being comparable to Foundation Degrees and Higher National Diplomas (HND).

Who Should Attend

The qualifications are aimed at middle and more experienced Managers and those progressing to more senior roles. Typically, delegates to this programme will either be responsible for the management of others in the organisation or be expected to do so shortly. This is a comprehensive programme of Leadership & Management development and the wide choice of subjects allows delegates to focus on areas that will meet their own needs. It is this flexibility that helps to provide a step change in personal and team performance. No previous formal Management Training experience is required.

There are no formal entry requirements for the Level 5 qualifications, however you do need a reasonable amount of experience of management and leadership at an appropriate level. Working towards your qualification

To obtain the Level 5 qualification, you will need to complete the online learning modules and the relevant number of assignments. The Diploma requires between 5 and 7 depending on which units you choose. The Level 5 Certificate qualification requires 2 or 3 assignments, and a Level 5 Award requires 1 assignment.

If you are going to work towards the Award with one assignment, then we highly recommend Unit 503 ‘Principles of Managing and Leading a Team to Achieve Success’. This is a core unit in our opinion and provides an in-depth understanding of both theoretical and practical approaches to leadership and management. There are a number of CMBD video tutorials available that support this unit in depth, but the choice is yours.

Delegates start their qualification by completing a virtual induction in how to use the CMI ManagementDirect ® resource. Each candidate can then discuss with their tutor and decide how they wish to construct their qualification. There is a choice of 26 subject areas that you can study so you really can tailor your programme to your own needs or career objectives.

Most people will send their tutor work as they complete each section of a unit so that feedback and guidance can be provided on an ongoing and personal basis. You can also email or arrange additional sessions if you need help with a particular issue.
