Course Overview

The Level 3 Principles of Management Distance Learning Award, Certificate and Diploma courses of study allow you to work towards some of the most prestigious and instantly recognisable management qualifications available in the UK. This Distance Learning programme of study is the ideal route for people who may be new to supervisory or management roles, who perhaps been identified as suitable for progression or may have been leading a team for some time but are interested in some management and leadership training, perhaps for the first time.

Covering a broad range of essential Management and Leadership topics you can use the qualifications to explore both the theory and the tools and techniques that will give you the skills and understanding needed to succeed in a supervisory or management role. The programme is suitable for participants from all types of business or organisation.

CMBD does Distance Learning differently (we believe!) by providing an easily accessible personal tutor who will support you through your qualification and provide advice and guidance along the way. Our training director Brent explains how we do it in the video below.

The resource area on the website also has several video tutorials on how to use the CMI ManagementDirect® portal where you will access your online learning journeys, how to approach your first assignment and how to reference your work using Microsoft Word®. The video tutorials also cover the most popular assignment (Unit 302) in detail.

What You Will Learn

Study is via the online CMI ManagementDirect® resource. Here you will find structured learning journeys designed by the CMI that will take you through each module at your own pace. The online learning journeys are a mix of reading, video tutorials, interactive scenario exercises and questionnaires and take between 3 and 9 hours each to complete. You will also be supported by your own personal CMBD tutor.

This combination on-line learning, self-development and tutor support delivers a high quality, flexible and cost-effective way of achieving an Internationally recognised qualification.

The total online learning time to complete the programme study content for a Diploma is about 32 hours and an Award learning journey takes about 4 to 6 hours.

What you will specifically learn will depend on the Unit or Units that you complete and we suggest you have a look at the syllabus at the bottom of this page for the content of each unit.

Who Should Attend

Typically, delegates to this programme will either be managing or supervising a team already, preparing to take on that responsibility or simply have not received any management or leadership training in the past. What all delegates have in common however, is that they practice or aspire to lead a team to achieve clearly defined goals by getting the best out of themselves and their people.

The CMI Level 3 Qualifications are designed to provide a range of study options. The entry level is working towards an Award (which requires completion of the relevant online learning journey and one assignment) through to a full Diploma requiring the completion of a number of journeys and assignments. People gaining the Award have the option to upgrade to the Certificate or Diploma later in their careers if they wish.

There are no formal entry requirements for the programme. The qualifications are intended for those relatively new to the responsibilities and requirements of a management position as well as those with some experience but no previous training. More information

Accessing your personal tutor is simple and easy. When we register you with the CMI you will receive a welcome email from them with instructions on how to access the ManagementDirect® portal. At this point use the tutor diary Zoom video link to book an induction with them. During this induction you will be shown around the portal, you can discuss which unit you are starting with, and your tutor will sort the relevant assignment brief and syllabus templates for you. Once you have completed a couple of the tasks in the assignment, send them to your tutor and you can arrange for a feedback session using the same Zoom link. Subsequent feedback can be by video, email or telephone as appropriate.

If you are completing an Award with a single assignment, then we recommend Unit 302 “Managing a Team to Achieve Results’ as a good choice. However, there are over 20 subject areas that you can study so you really can tailor your qualification to your own needs or career objectives.

We regularly run a 6-Day Classroom based course in the Level 3 Principles of Management with the CMI qualifications as an option and you can find details of this on the relevant course page on the website. However, we recognise that people may be too far away from our training venue to attend or simply require a more flexible and cost-effective way to work towards their qualifications.
