Level 3

CMI Level 3 Principles of Management & Leadership (RQF)

This 6-day classroom based programme is aimed at anyone who supervises or manages a team to achieve clearly defined goals and objectives. You may be already in such a role or wish to prepare for this responsibility. The course content also provides the underpinning knowledge for the optional CMI Level 3 Principles of Management qualifications.

Course Overview

This is one of CMBD's most popular programmes and is run on a regular open-course basis at Hexgreave Hall (see further down the page for dates of the next programme) as well as being frequently provided on an in-house/bespoke basis for clients with a suitable cohort.

The 6-day programme (each day usually two or three weeks apart) is perfect for giving practicing or aspiring managers, team leaders, project managers and supervisors a solid foundation in the fundamental principles of getting the best out of themselves and others.

Candidates have the option of completing a CMI Level 3 qualification alongside the classroom courses. This is highly recommended on this Level 3 programme as it provides an opportunity to consider how to apply the skills and knowledge gained on the course to the real workplace. The best option is to start with the CMI Level 3 Award in our opinion. This requires a single assignment (we suggest Unit 302 'Managing a Team to Achieve Results') and the candidate is supported to complete the work required both on the course and with a personal tutor. Completion of the Award qualification allows the candidate to go on to the Certificate or Diploma later if they wish.

In summary, the benefits for individuals taking part in the programme include;

  • Thoroughly understanding their leadership and management role
  • Understanding how to get the best out of their team
  • Learning techniques for planning and decision making
  • Knowing how to put skills learned on the programme into practice
  • Gaining a nationally recognised qualification (optional)
  • The opportunity for peer based learning and discussion

The benefits to the organisation include;

  • A programme focused on workplace activity and improvement
  • People with the skill and knowledge to manage their own professional development
  • People with the self-awareness to lead and deliver results
  • Removal of leadership and management skill barriers to achieving objectives
  • People with the knowledge required to make a real difference

The video below gives a more comprehensive introduction to the programme and the optional Level 3 CMI qualifications. More detail on the qualification is provided in the syllabus in the Downloads section below.

Who Should Attend

This 6-day classroom based programme is aimed at anyone who supervises or manages a team to achieve clearly defined goals and objectives. You may be already in such a role or wish to prepare for this responsibility. The course content also provides the underpinning knowledge for the optional CMI Level 3 Principles of Management qualifications.

There are no specific entry level requirements for either the classroom based programme or the optional Level 3 CMI qualifications. We regularly have graduate management trainees from large businesses, individuals with some experience of supervising and managing but who have no previous formal training, people on the shop floor or people who have been identified as having the potential to move up.

Further information

The programme is provided for between six to twelve delegates and runs regularly on an open course basis at our Hexgreave Hall training suite. Open courses are excellent at providing additional peer group learning to the delegates. Coming into contact with people from different sectors, different types of organisation or business and with different levels of experience is a great way to enhance your learning.

As already mentioned, the programme days are two to three weeks apart (we skirt round bank holidays). This allows time for reflection and application and the time out of the workplace much easier to cope with operationally. In-house courses are flexible and can be delivered in your time-scale.

Open course days run from 09.30 to 16.00 each day and lunch is provided. Dress code is comfortable and casual and the setting of our training centre at Hexgreave Hall in North Nottinghamshire is magnificent being set in the middle of a thousand acre estate with its own deer herd (no poaching please!).

The CMI qualifications are also available as a Distance Learning option. Contact us for more information or see the Level 3 Distance Learning page.
