Simon works with CMBD clients to improve their business and operational performance by fusing his knowledge of problem solving tools and methodologies from the world of lean/six-sigma with his understanding of organisational behaviour and occupational psychology.
 
With his background in organisational behaviour/occupational psychology and his many years' experience of improvement programmes in various sectors (including Rolls Royce), Simon is able to support clients across the full spectrum of activities necessary for success. Such activities might well range from structuring an improvement programme and determining priorities, through to developing the right culture and leadership team.

Mike Salt
Mike is an experienced assessor, internal verifier/IQA and EQA (External Quality Assurer) and he covers a range of Supervisory, Leadership & Management qualifications up to and including Level 7 (with an equivalence to Master’s Degree). He also covers the TAQA range of qualifications, including Learning & Development, assessor and verifier qualifications. His other areas of expertise include customer service, business administration, health & safety and he takes personal responsibility for the BIT's programmes and Levels 2 and 3..
 
In his role as the Centre Manager for CMBD, Mike is responsible for the quality assurance, policies and procedures and the training of the assessors and tutors in delivering Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualifications programmes from Level 2 Team Leader up to Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership..

About the programme:                    

The Level 3 City and Guilds Business Improvement Techniques programme and qualification is designed for the more experienced supervisor and first line manager and is particularly effective at producing immediate improvements in your organisation. It is project based and can address current and locally identified issues that will bring an immediate benefit. It is quite usual for supervisors and managers to complete a Level 3 whilst their team members complete a Level 2.

The programme consists of a combination of classroom teaching and work-place project days over a three to six-month period to suit the client. The tutor will hold an introductory day on site to brief the learners, form project groups and agree targets and the work processes that will be looked at. There will then be an of average six visits to the site, during which the tutor will hold both classroom and work-place sessions, supporting the participants in the completion of their qualification projects and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business Improvement Techniques. There will then be a final wrap-up day where the tutor will review and ensure that all work and projects are completed and acceptable for submission to the City and Guilds.
The participants will complete 5 core and two optional units during the programme.

Designed for:

The programme is designed for more experienced people who may be in a supervisory or first line management role and who already have a degree of knowledge about their organisation and its working practices. It is quite usual for programmes to include both Level 2 and Level 3 delegates.

Level 3 will be suitable if participants have worked in a business improvement environment for some time and are keen to increase their skills and knowledge in order to take on a more responsible role.

As with the level 2 programme, this qualification is suitable for a wide variety of roles and sectors, including sales, administration, service and manufacturing.

The Programme content:

The programme is operationally based and requires the participants to be able to apply improvements in their work place whilst working with a team. The length of the programme is flexible but would normally be completed within 3 to 6 months.

The programme will cover five mandatory topics in the form of NVQ units and a further two units from the prescribed lists (common options are unit 307 covering problem solving techniques and unit 313 which looks at process identification and flow). Training is provided where required by the tutor, each participant being individually assessed. Training is provided to the group as well as on an individual coaching basis.

Unit 201 – How to apply Health and Safety to working practices
        - Comply with statutory and organisational safety requirements
        - Know how to comply with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
 
Unit 302 – Leading effective teams
        - Set realistic goals
        - Communicate effectively
        - Consult with management to set appropriate goals and performance standards
        - Identifying individual strengths and managing weaknesses
        - The individual team roles
        - Managing the individuals within the team
        - Deal with problems

Unit 303 – Application of workplace organisational techniques
        - Co-ordinate the process of workplace organisation in the chosen area
        - Make changes to standard operating procedures
        - Make changes to visual controls
        - Make changes to the workplace organisation
        - Evaluate and prioritise the changes identified

Unit 304 – Applying continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen)
        -  Identify and confirm improvements in the chosen areas
        - Carry out structured waste elimination activities
        - Identify appropriate cost measures
        - Getting the message over
        - Visually represent the resources required to meet customer demand
        - Record and show business improvements and apply appropriate key indicators

Unit 305 – Develop Visual Management Systems
        - Identify the work areas to have visual controls
        - Create or make changes to visual management systems
        - Identify and confirm the key indicators to be displayed
        - Produce and make changes to the standards operating system
        - Measure the effectiveness of the VM system and maintain the quality of information displayed

Further information and fees:

The programme is very flexible and can be delivered in-house for a minimum of three candidates on a stand-alone basis or for a single participant where there are other participants completing a Level 2 programme concurrently.

The programme fee is: £1495.00 plus VAT per delegate and this includes City and Guilds registration and tutor support for the Level 3 Diploma in Business Improvement Techniques.

The qualification aspect can cause apprehension for some delegates on the course. CMBD are well aware of this and are very skilled in supporting and reassuring anyone who might be in this position. We are recognised as being exceptional in supporting learners and an example of best practice in this area.
